Synergy helping local businesses not just survive, but thrive
Growing a business during COVID has been tough for many businesses, but Synergy Accountants has been working closely with some of the hardest hit to open up new opportunities and secure cash injections that don’t involve a trip to the bank.
Synergy Director Kathy Wockner said there were plenty of financial packages in the form of grants available to small businesses which she says will go a long way in helping a business’s survival and growth, even during these challenging times.
She has recently helped several businesses obtain a Queensland Small Business Adaption Grant – each worth up to $10,000. But she says knowing how and when to apply is key. “The process can be tricky, but with a little help, businesses have a good chance of securing one, or even more grants,” Kathy said.
RegionAll Electrical and Oasis Health and Beauty Day Spa were two of a handful of small businesses who worked with Kathy on the application process, and are now reaping the rewards.
Kym Bosse of Oasis Health and Beauty Day Spa was thrilled to receive the grant which she will use to obtain marketing, financial, and business advice.
“I couldn’t have done it without Synergy’s help,” she admits. “My business was shut down for almost eight weeks during the recent lockdown. It was unsettling to say the least. But with the cash injection of this grant, it has definitely taken the pressure off.”
The grant has given Kym the opportunity to work with marketing communications consultant, Nicci O’Mara of On The Map Communication, who has helped grow hundreds of businesses, including Synergy Accountants, throughout her 25-year career.
“Great marketing is integral to the successful growth of every business,” Nicci said. “There is so much more to marketing than having a website and a social media presence and I’m looking forward to helping Kym build a solid strategic plan to attract more customers and grow her business.”
Regionall Electrical is another small business which has secured funding from the Government, with the help of Synergy.
Owner Annika Ehrlich said, “We know our business, but when it came to selling it for a grant submission, Kathy’s input was invaluable.
“We were ecstatic to be accepted for a grant, but I really put it down to our teamwork with Synergy. Kathy was ahead of the game right from the start.”
She said having a proactive accountant like Kathy was essential for their business growth. “Synergy really takes an active role in our business. They have helped us grow, made us accountable, planned for our future and are there any time we need them,” Annika said.
Kathy said every time one of Synergy’s clients is approved for a grant or reaches a financial target, she feels elated. “When a client gets confirmation of a grant funding, it is a cause for celebration – for them and us. It is truly rewarding to see our clients reaching their business and personal goals. When there are opportunities for a leg up along the way we want to make sure our clients are first in line.”
Kathy reiterates that the rewards are there for small business owners who put in the time and energy to submit a complete and compelling grant proposal.
“It is absolutely worth the process. Government grant funding is generally free money to assist in growing small businesses – as was the case with the recent Small Business Adaption Grant which both RegionAll Electrical and Oasis Health and Beauty Day Spa were successful in. It provides these businesses with opportunities that they could otherwise not necessarily afford.”
